FLASHINGS
Fabricated
to order from flat steel sheets, available in the full range of
gauges and finishes to match or contrast with roof and wall systems.
In order to ensure a weather tight seal and a good appearance to
the building, attention should be given to the correct design detail.
Flashings are normally manufactured in the same material and thickness
as the cladding but should always be a minimum of 0.70mm thick.
Where the leg length of a flashing exceeds 200mm, it will be difficult
to maintain a flat appearance and it is advisable to introduce a
bend or stiffer to straighten and strengthen the material. Exposed
edges should be stiffened in the same way using one of the details
shown.
Most
flashings used on roofs are 'open' and can be lapped, typically
including sealant and stitching fastener at a maximum spacing of
100mm. However 'closed' sections such as eaves gutters use butt
straps behind the joint. These should be at least 150mm long.
Some typical flashing details are illustrated. However, all our
flashings are custom made to meet the requirements of individual
contracts. Orders for flashings should include fully dimensioned
sketches of the sections required. Standard lengths are 3.0 metres.
